I am adopting a male kitten, and a young adult female cat. Both are already fixed, have current shots, neither have current special needs, and both will be indoor cats. What types of things should I consider when choosing pet insurance? In general, what is covered by insurance and what is not? Or does it really depend on the plan?
Or should I just ask the vet for advice when I take them in for an initial checkup?
a few things to consider:
-does the company increase your rates each year just because your pet is getting older?
-what type of payout limits do they have/benefit schedules?
-is it an ongoing policy? (some companies will only pay for a condition the first year it happens, but if it continues into the second policy year, it will not be covered)

I’m getting a Great Dane puppy in September and I’m looking for an outstanding (but affordable) pet insurance policy for him to cover any unexpected emergencies/surgeries/etc.
I’ve already decided on a veterinarian and I don’t want to take him to Petsmart’s Banfield, as some friends have suggested to me, so please don’t respond with that!
Thanks!
pet insurance is definitely a good idea, especially for high-risk dogs like Danes that can get hip dysplasia etc.
Check out Trupanion which is a fantastic company– they don’t increase rates at each birthday like most provders do, and also they removed all limits. there is a good comparison page they have here: http://www.trupanionpetinsurance.com/Why_Choose_Trupanion_Pet_Health_Insurance/Compare_Pet_Insurance_Companies/VPI-Comparison

I am getting a puppy lhasa apso in 4 weeks and am wondering what is the best place to get pet insurance. I have had a look but am completely confused as there are all different terms and offers. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.

Pet insurance is based on your post code, the breed of dog, the age of the dog and whether or not it is neutered and vaccinated.
Comparison sites really help. In the end it turned out tesco gave me the best deal, plus the points helped.
