Birds aren’t exactly my area of expertise, so I’m looking for opinions, especially from bird owners. My mother has a parakeet and he’s getting old. I’d like to get her a bird that lasts more than 2-3 years, but nothing that requires attentive, detailed care like a African Grey. Any suggestions on bird behavior and/or types of breed?
Well im not exactly sure what you mean by detailed care? I have several birds and to me i care the same for the small ones as i do the large ones. But i think what you are saying is that you would like a smaller bird. I think i would recommend a cockatiel. They are a little bit bigger then a parakeet but not as large as an African Grey. They like to whistle and things the same as a parakeet. They also live longer, about 17 years on an average.
I would make sure that when you go to get one that you get a hand tamed one. They are more expensive but in the long run well worth it. You will probably need a bigger cage then the one that you have already for the parakeet. Pet shops usually have cocatiel sets. It has the cage and every thing that you will need. Good Luck

Ok, this is going to sound weird, but it’s true. My cat is about a year old now, and for the past 5-6 months whenever I start to pet her, she starts purring, and then – no joke- starts to suck on her own nipple.. she only does it when I pet her and make her purr. Doe anybody else’s cat do this? Can anyone explain this?
You are correct,this is weird. I have been around and have raised cats, for over four decades, and, I personally, have never seen it. Other than perhaps a future in "Kitty Porn", your cat is doing this to ‘comfort’ itself. I would imagine, that one day, in the last 6 months or so, your cat was cleaning itself, and accidentally—’did’ it, which ‘all’ cats do, but, don’t usually, go any farther than cleaning. If it doesn’t ‘bother’ you, just forget about it, I’m sure your cat will stop doing it on it’s own. (*It’s kind of like, when a child sucks it’s thumb)

I have not had many cats as a pet and I haven’t seen this behavior before. My male cat walks between my feet when I’m walking. He sways back and forth and if I’m not looking down at him, I’ll step on him. He does this even after I have petted him. I would think he would have learned by now not to do this or he’ll get hurt. Why does he do this?
Because cats do what they want!!! and also ur its mom he loves you.Since i don’t know the age this is hard to answer, young cat more likley old cat wierd. He feels secure with you. Seriously lightly step on his tail just enough to teach him not to hang out underneath you he’ll get the message and that way u won’t ever step on him literaly and break the poor kitty’s back!

I have a budgie:http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v276/59/119/687709415/n687709415_1078543_1731.jpg
His name is Kish. I don’t take him out anymore because I’m scared he’ll hurt himself. I really want to be able to have him sit on me and stuff but how do you train a bird? Also he seems scared of me. I do leave him alone alot and he seems happy with the radio on. should I talk to him more? The only thing he does is look at himself in the mirror and he sits on my finger when I put it in the cage. (after he bites me lol)
Also, why won’t he eat any fruit? I read that parakeets love apples and oranges and stuff but when I put them in his cage he doesn’t eat them.
I really want a bird that i can hod and pet but I have had him for 3 yrs and he only sits in his cage…Please help me!
I think that talking to him is a good way to start.
take them out and out them gently on your shoulder, meanwhile keep talking to them calmly. for example say;
"its okay, mommy wont hurt you, kish.heyy etc"
and then of course he’ll get used to it
and about the fruit. i tried putting apples and oranges in my birds cage
and he’s scared shitless =]
there’s nothing wrong with it ;D
hope it helped
